How to hide MICR line on check

ezCheckPrinting software is very flexible. Users can print checks on blank check stock and pre-printed check. Users can customize the check layout easily too.

 

Followings are the guides to hide the MICR line (Accounting number, bank account and check number) when you print a check

 

·         If you just want to hide this line, you can click the top menu "Settings->Layout setup" to open layout set up screen. Then uncheck the option "Display MICR line" at the bottom of this screen and save your change.

Since employer does not need to withhold taxes from contractors’ paychecks, we would like to suggest you add the second account to handle the paychecks for 1099 contractors.     Step 1: Set up the first company account for W-2 employees.

     Step 2: Set up the second company account for 1099 contractors.

    • Click the ezPaycheck top menu “Duplicate current account” to duplicate current account to handle paychecks for 1099 contractor.

    • When you add a contractor, you need to uncheck all the tax options. Then ezPaycheck will not withhold taxes from the paychecks.

    Small Business Payroll Solution: How to Handle SDI Tax?

    ezPaycheck payroll software is very flexible. With ezPaycheck, user can easily add a new deduction to handle SDI Tax, IRA plan, Garnishment, Donation, Dependent Care, Flexible Account or other local taxes.

     

    Here are the steps on how to add a SDI Tax:

    • Add a new deduction

    1. Start ezPaycheck, click the left menu “Company Settings->Deductions” to  open Company Deduction Setup screen.

    2. Check one Customized deduction item, then clicked the button behind it to open  Deduction Details sceen. 

    3. Input the new name "SDI" for the Description field. 

    4. If this is a deduction by percent,  you can check "Deduction in percentage of wage" option box and enter the value. Otherwise, leave it unchecked. Enter the uplimit for this deduction.

    For example: The 2012 CA SDI tax rate is 1.0 percent (.010) of SDI taxable wages per employee, per year. This includes the rate for PFL. The maximum tax is $955.85 per employee, per year.

    5. Check other tax options 

    6. Click the "Save" button and closed Deduction details page. 

    7. Click "save" button on Company Deduction Setup form to update the database.

     

    • Update employee profile

    1. Select one employee from employee list and edit his deduction option. 

    2. Enter the amount or percent value.  

    3. Click "next" until  the last page, then click the "Finish" button to save the change.

    • Generate a new check 

    When you generate the new check, you will see this new SDI Tax on paycheck

    What Is New with 2012 Social Security Tax

    Nearly 160 million workers will benefit from the extension of the reduced payroll tax rate that has been in effect for 2011. IRS required that employers should implement the new payroll tax rate as soon as possible in 2012 but not later than Jan. 31, 2012.

     

    Following are the instructions from Notice 1036

     

    The employee tax rate for social security is 4.2% on wages paid and tips received before March 1, 2012. The employee tax rate for social security increases to 6.2% on wages paid and tips received after February 29, 2012. The employer tax rate for social security remains unchanged at 6.2%. The social security wage base limit is $110,100. The Medicare tax rate is 1.45% each for the employee and employer, unchanged from 2011. There is no wage base limit for Medicare tax.

     

    Employers should implement the 4.2% employee social security tax rate as soon as possible, but not later than January 31, 2012. After implementing the 4.2% rate, employers should make an offsetting adjustment in a subsequent pay period to correct any overwithholding of social security tax as soon as possible, but not later than March 31, 2012.

    How to enter YTD payroll data?

    YTD means Year-to-date. It is a period from the beginning of the current year, and continues up to the present day. The YTD information on the check stubs will update automatically each time you add a new paycheck.

     

    This YTD entry feature is for users who start ezPaycheck in mid-year. (If you start ezPaycheck from Jan 1, you do not need to enter YTD manually.)

     

    For example, company ABC handles paychecks for employee Ryan Smith manually from 1/1/2011 to 6/30/2011. They plan to use ezPaycheck from 7/1/2011-7/15/2011 pay period. So instead of entering the old checks one by one, they can enter the YTD summary data here.

    $1.1 Billion Loans Approved by SBA to Georgia Small Businesses

    The Georgia district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration announced On Sep 19, 2011 that it has approved more than $1 billion in guaranty lending for the 2011 fiscal year which ends this month, a record annual total - the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

    The amount of loans jumped to $1.1 billion from $647 million last year, and exceeded the previous high in Georgia of $671 million in 2008.

    SBA district director Terri Denison called the increase "an encouraging sign, compared to where we were  in the fall of 2008 when SBA lending and lending activity in general had come to a complete standstill."

    How to print a pre-approved check draft?

    Question: Instead of printing a signature graphic can we print the words "Pre Approved Draft - No Signature Required"? 

    Answers: Yes. EzCheckPrinting is very flexible and allow user to create a check draft.

    Any business can create a check draft. A regular check is created by the account holder, and signed (authorized) by the account holder. A check draft is created by the merchant, and the signature is not required. The account holder must authorize the merchant to create a check draft.

    Followings are the steps to create a check draft if you receive a check by phone, fax or online.

    1.  Start ezCheckPrinting

    2. Add a new draft check account for this customer XYZ by clicking the top menu "Accounts->New Account". Then select it as the current database by clicking the top menu "Account->Select Account".

    4. Add the new text label 

     

    -- You can access the check layout page by clicking the top menu "settings->check layout".

    -- Select "Custom Text 0" from the item picker drop download list.

    -- Check the visible option, add the description and drag/drop this item to your target location.

    -- Click the Save button to save your change.   

    5. Add the new check by clicking the "NEW" button from the main screen. 

    Tips:

    1) You can follow the above steps to create a template. Then you can use backup function to duplicate this template easily. You can duplicate this template account by clicking the top menu "Account->Backup current account".

    2) To save your time, you can download the draft check template database from

    Giving products away for free may seem like a strange way to grow a business, but for Louisville, Ky.-based Halfpricesoft.com, it has been the key to success.

     

    Having sold fewer than a hundred copies of their payroll and check printing software titles in the first years of business, software developer Halfpricesoft.com now sells thousands of copies each year now by giving away their full-feature versions through partnerships.

     

    Halfpricesoft.com launched in 2003 with a focus on creating payroll tax software solutions that is easy to learn and affordable for small businesses yet full-featured. The company found it difficult to market software as a start-up, since customers were unfamiliar with the company, and sold only a handful of copies in its first year.
