Can I change the pay frequency from monthly to semi-monthly during the calendar year? If so, is all I need to do to change is change the "pay frequency" under the company setup?

Yes, you can change the pay period(the pay frequency) anytime. The change will apply to the new checks only. It will NOT change the saved checks.
