What is new for California 2016 payroll tax rate

Paychecks changed for California workers from Jan. 1, 2016

According to State of California Employment Development Department (http://www.edd.ca.gov), low income Exemption for single is increased to $13,419 and to $26,838 for Married and Head of Household. Standard deduction increased to $4,044 for single and $8,088 for married and head of household.

The California income tax rates range from 1.1% to 14.63% and are levied on California residents’ income and non-residents’ income from California sources.
