How to Read ACA XML File Errors by Line Number with NotePad

You can read the XML data in several ways. Here is an example to view XML file with Notepad application, which is installed by default on Windows.

Find the path if you do not know where are your XML files

You can find the XML file directory from the ez1095 efile screen (The bottom item on this screen).

Steps to Find and Fix ACA XML File Errors

Step 1: Open the file with NotePad

- You can start NotePad application, Click the top menu "File" to open the file.

- Or you can select the xml file, right click the mouse button and choose OPEN WITH option from the pop up menu to open the file with NOTEPAD

Step 2: Click the top menu "Format" and uncheck "word wrap" option

Step 3: Click the top menu "Edit" then the sub menu "Go to" to go to the line

Step 4: Find the employee name and SSN.

Step 5: Fix the error(s)

Note: If you generated the XML files with another application, ez1095 can import data.

- Select the form from list, edit and save the change.

Step 6: Generate new XML files, validate and efile the XML files to IRS
