Important Notice for IRS FIRE E-Filers

  • The IRS has announced plans to retire the FIRE (Filing Information Returns Electronically) system on December 31, 2026.

  • Starting in January 2027 (for Tax Year 2026 / Filing Season 2027), the IRIS (Information Returns Intake System) will become the only authorized platform for submitting information returns - including those previously filed through FIRE.

  • Up through tax year 2025, the FIRE system will remain available for most 1099 forms, but it will not support Form 1099-DA (Digital Asset Proceeds).

  • ez1099 2025 users are encouraged to take advantage of the new built-in direct IRIS e-file service, especially if you need to file the new 1099-DA form or prepare for the upcoming transition away from FIRE.

    1. What is the due date?

    2. I need to file 1099-nec form. Which software should I use?
    Both ezW2 and ez1099 support the form 1099-nec. If you need to file 1099-nec only, we suggest ezW2 because it is less expensive.

    3. I need to file 1099-nec and 1099-misc forms. Should I use ez1099 software?

    Yes, ez1099 software will work for you.

    Part 2: About Paper Forms

    1. Are red forms required for 1099 reporting?
    Yes. IRS does not certify substitute forms. You need to print the data on the red forms for copy A and 1096.

    2. Can I print the recipient copies on white paper?
    Yes.

    3. Where to order to red forms?
    You can find the red forms from your local office store and our site. We ship all forms wtih USPS priority mail.


    Part 3: About eFile

    1. How to efile 1099's to IRS?

    In 2026 tax season, you have two options for e-filing 2025 1099s and 1096 forms with the IRS:

    1). Self-Filing - Requires your own TCC (Transmitter Control Code).
    2). In-App E-Filing Service - No TCC required; we file on your behalf.

    2. Is a TCC required to file 1099 forms electronically?

    If you are filing 2025 forms during the 2026 tax season, a TCC is not required when using the built-in direct e-filing service in ez1099 2025 (and ezW2 2025).

    However, if you need to file prior-year forms (for example, 2023 forms), the software can generate the required e-file document for you to upload through your IRS account - in this case, a TCC is required.

    3. I am a new tax filer. When should I apply for the TCC if I want to file 1099 electronically this year?

    With ez1099 2025 (and ezW2 2025) you can use the built-in direct e-filing service, which does not require a TCC.

    If you prefer the self-filing option, please apply the TCC as soon as possible. It may take several days to a couple of weeks to set up a new account. Please contact IRS directly to check the current status.


    4. I am a new CPA. I need to efile W2, 1099, 1095 forms for clients this year. Can I apply for one IRS efile account for all forms?

    With ez1099 2025 (and ezW2 2025) you can use the built-in direct e-filing service, which does not require a TCC and a User ID.

    If you prefer the self-filing option, you must apply different accounts.

    - You need to apply User ID to file W2/W2C for SSA return.
    - You need to apply TCC to file 1099 to IRS FIRE System.
    - You need to apply TCC for IRS ACA system.

    5. Do I need to pay extra fee to use your in-app efiling service
    We include 10 free form submissions with your ez1099 order. If you need to file additional forms, a small service fee will apply for extra submissions.

    6. I am a CPA. When I file for multiple companies, do I need to register for a account for each company when using your direct efiling service?
    No, you only need one customer account. With a single account, you can submit forms for multiple companies and track all submission statuses conveniently in one place.

    7 When I efile my 1099 forms, do I need to submit a 1096 separately?
    No. The efile document created by ez1099 (or ezW2) software includes both 1099 forms and 1096 form.
